Welcome to Bordeaux’s right bank
A riverbank with a global reputation.
Why? Undoubtedly thanks to the village of Saint-Emilion and its UNESCO-listed vineyards.
Certainly because of its gentle way of life and gently rolling landscapes bordering the Dordogne. Obviously because of its wines, grouped under 10 prestigious appellations.
The highly varied soils, predominantly clay and limestone, are ideal for Merlot, a very expressive and delicious grape variety, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
This eclectic vineyard, which brings together more than 1,300 winegrowers, produces red wines of incredible finesse, recognisable among thousands, and is hugely popular in France and abroad, with 40% of production currently exported.
This enthusiasm is nothing new, as wine has been a tradition here since the Middle Ages and at the court of Versailles, passed down from generation to generation.
Let’s delve into this history of elegance, expertise and flavours… written in the intense red ink of the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac.

A region, terroirs, a shared history
To truly appreciate the fruit of a terroir, it is helpful to know its origin and characteristics.
Terroir is an essential concept in Bordeaux. Its definition encompasses much more than just the geographical area it implies. It is an interaction of several factors, an alchemy between soil, climate, relief and, of course, human intervention and expertise.
In Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac, the topography is slightly hilly, with plateaus and slopes. This favours the drainage of certain soils, for example.
The climate is typically oceanic and temperate, like the rest of the Bordeaux region, influenced by the Gulf Stream and protected by the Landes forest. And even though we are a little further inland with a more pronounced continental climate, the presence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers helps to temper it.
The soils are diverse, composed of alternating and combined gravel, sand, clay and limestone.
All these elements are conducive to the cultivation of Merlot, which is the king of grape varieties in the Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac wines. It brings them unparalleled aromatic richness, colour, suppleness and crispness on the palate. On the nose, the aromas of ripe red and black fruits and flowers are immediately recognisable, evolving after a few years towards fig or plum.
For a proper blend, it is complemented with Cabernet Franc, whose fresh bouquet and tannins contribute to a perfect structure and ageing potential.
And let’s not forget Cabernet Sauvignon, suited to hot, dry soils, which brings spicy notes, rich tannins and promotes long ageing.
